PROPHECY
* CHILDREN |
We
must cling to our Bibles.* If
Satan can make you believe that there are things in the Word of God*
that are not inspired, he will then be prepared to ensnare your soul. We
shall have no assurance, no certainty at
the very time we need to know what is truth*. Evangelism,
page 249, A
correct understanding of "what saith the scriptures*"
in regard to the state of the dead is essential for this time. God's word* declares that the dead know not anything, their hatred and love have
alike perished. We
must
come to the sure word of prophecy*
for our authority.
Our feet should be shod with the preparation of the gospel,
and the truth* of God should be our shield and
buckler.
We must know for ourselves that we have the truth*
of God. Therefore let no one entertain the question whether this or
that portion of the word*
of God is inspired. Go to work; gird on the armor of Christ's
righteousness. Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, December 18, 1888
Cling close to your Bible*,
for its sacred truths can purify, ennoble and sanctify the
soul. You must hold the truth* and teach it as it
is in Jesus, else it is of no value to you.
Before the light of God's truth* let human opinions and ideas and human wisdom appear as they are in
the sight of God --as foolishness. Let no man feel
that his position as president either of the General Conference or of a state
conference clothes with him a power over the consciences of others
that is the least degree oppressive, for God will not sanction anything of
this kind. He must respect the rights of all, and all the more because he is in
a position where others will pattern after him. Christian Leadership, page 30 When Satan tells you that your
sins are such that you need not expect any great victories in God, tell him the
Bible* teaches that those who love most are those
who have been forgiven most. Do not try to lessen your guilt by excusing sin.
You cannot come near to God by faith unless you realize your sinfulness. Then
you can place yourselves right on the promises, and with
unwavering faith can claim a share in the infinite sacrifice that has been made
for the human race. Cling closely to Jesus, and His
great heart of love will draw you unto Himself. Lift Him Up, page 333,
Brethren,
cling to your Bible*,
as it reads, and
stop your criticisms in regard to its validity, and
obey the Word*, and
not one of you will be lost.
The ingenuity of men has been
exercised for ages to measure the Word of God* by
their finite minds and limited comprehension. If the Lord, the Author of the
living oracles*, would throw back the curtain and
reveal His wisdom and His glory before them, they would shrink into nothingness
and exclaim as did Isaiah, "I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the
midst of people of unclean lips" (Isa. 6:5). Selected Messages Book 1, page
18 In my dreams I have been
talking to you as I have here written. My heart yearns over you with intensity.
Trying as your case now is, do not despond. You need cheerfulness and decision.
Seek for help from God. God is your friend. You are never alone. The
Bible* is your counselor. It is a light to
them who are in darkness. Be steadfast in the hour of trial, for you will have
new trials to meet. But
cling to Jesus, and make Him your strength. Testimonies
for the Church Volume Five, page 507 Let those who contemplate
giving themselves to the work, place themselves in connection with those who
have had a good experience in the ways of God, and a knowledge of his cause. Let
all seek a clear understanding of the Scriptures* of truth. See to it that the living Saviour is your Saviour, and
that you are following in his footsteps. Cultivate piety and humility of mind.
Combat intellectual laziness and spiritual lethargy. Be ready for every work
that you can do for the Master.
Instead of catching up every new and fanciful interpretation of the
Bible*, CLING TO THE MESSAGE.
Let not every influence affect
you; but seek to develop a character that is consistent, meek, teachable, and
yet firm and cheerful; and with all this, be sober and watch unto prayer.
Walk in a perfect way. Let
the high, sacred truth you profess
be constantly elevating your character, ennobling and refining
you, and fitting you for the
heavenly courts.
The
learners in Christ's school must show that they are not unappreciative scholars.
Let the sanctifying grace of God strengthen, soften, and subdue your entire
nature. You must yourself be what you wish others to be. Christ prayed
concerning his disciples, "I sanctify myself, that
they also might be
sanctified."
Bring into your life the piety, the Christian courtesy, the respect for
one another that you wish to see reflected in those who embrace the truth*
through your instrumentality. Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, May 29, 1888, While thus depending upon God,
we shall not be found warring against the truth*,
but we shall always be enabled to take our stand for the right. We should cling to the teaching of the Bible*, and not follow the customs and traditions of the world, the sayings and doings of men. When errors arise and are taught as Bible truth*,
those who have a connection with Christ
will not trust to what the minister says, but, like the noble Bereans, they will
search the Scriptures* daily to see if these
things are so. When
they discover what is the word of the Lord, they
will take their stand on the side of truth*. They
will hear the voice of the true Shepherd saying, "This
is the way, walk ye in it." Thus
you will be educated to make the Bible* the man
of your counsel, and
the voice of a stranger you will neither hear nor follow. The
Signs of the Times, May 19, 1890,
But if Jesus, when He was upon
earth, with all His power and miracles could not break down that prejudice that
was in the heart of the people, what can we do? Brethren,
pray. Don't argue, but pray before God, and let every soul
hang himself upon God. Let us seek God now that we may find him. Let the truth*
of God come into your hearts; open the door.
Now I tell you here before God,
that the covenant question, as it has been presented, is the truth. It is the
light. In clear lines it has been laid before me. And those that have been
resisting the light, I ask you whether they have been working for God, or for
the devil. It is the clear light of heaven,
and it means much to us. It means to show us that you
can not depend upon your own smartness and your
criticisms, but you must hang your helpless soul upon Jesus Christ, and
upon Him understand.
The angels of God will be round about us, if we will only cling
to the right.
Wherever Christ is, there are
angels to communicate the power and the grace and the glory. I honor my Lord and
my Master. I want to carry the banner of truth*
to the very close of this message. And when the message shall triumph, I want to
triumph with it.
No
more will my lips be sealed. I have been watching to see what course these men
would take, how much light would come into their souls. I have been watching to
see. I told Brother Dan Jones, I will not tell you my opinion; my faith. Dig
in the Bible*.
Sink the shaft of truth to find out what is truth.*
But I tell you to-day, while I have been keeping in silence, the Lord has been
revealing night after night, the position of individual cases before me.
The converting power of God is
needed in our midst. He will work through our ministers as he did in Bethlehem.
He will shed his light and his glory upon us if we will only give him a chance.
But when you begin to talk with them
they will make your
words mean something else. The Devil is at their side.
He
is just as much at their side as he was at the side of those men of Nazareth
when Christ proclaimed that he was the anointed one. The power of God, the Holy
Ghost, the great Convictor, said it was so, and they said right out it was so.
But the Devil said, Think of this; why, His mother and his brethren are right
here with us. Well, then, Satan followed up the track, and what next? They were
ready to pitch him over the precipice. It is not best to set the feet an inch in
the powers of darkness. But God help us right here on this ground to surrender to Him.
I have born testimony after testimony, but it has not had any weight. They
have rejected everything but their own ideas. May God help you to
not close your hearts and minds to this testimony. May God help you to accept
and receive it as truth.* The Ellen G White 1888
Materials, page 596.
Since such ample provisions have
been made for our salvation, shall we be excusable if we put forth no effort to
obtain eternal life? God has given his beloved Son to die that we might be
saved. What an infinite condescension on the part of the God of heaven! By the
death of Jesus Christ life and immortality are brought to light. What a hope we
have!
And with such a hope as this
shall we cling to sin? Shall we not consent to be purified from every spot and stain? It is for us to search the Scriptures;* for said Christ, "They are they which testify of me."
And while we have the precious
testimony of the word* of God before us, we can
be both hearers and doers of the word*.
As we see the weakness of human nature, instead of trying to
justify ourselves in wrongdoing, let us become more familiar with the word*
of God. It will strengthen our minds in the time of temptation.
