Hebrew text uses two words for sanctuary: miqdash and qodesh.
Both words are used in Dn. 8:9-14. Miqdash is the chosen word in
verse 11: “and the place of his sanctuary was cast down”. Qodesh
is the chosen word in verses 13 and 14: “until when the vision...to give
both the sanctuary and the host to be trampled”; “unto 2300 days, then
shall the sanctuary be cleansed”. It is suggested that Daniel used two
distinct words for sanctuary not for recapitulative emphasis as suggested
by Hasel48 but to
emphasize the stark contrast of two different sanctuaries.
